USS Benfold (DDG-65) Leaving Pearl Harbor – Hawaii


The USS Benfold (DDG-65), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, departs Pearl Harbor, HI. The Benfold was commissioned in 1996, is 505 feet in length, displaces 9000 tons, and has a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h). Her armament includes 90 x RIM-156 SM-2, BGM-109 Tomahawk or RUM-139 VL-Asroc missiles, 1 x Mark 45 deck gun, 2 x 25mm chain guns, 4 x 50 caliber (12.7mm) guns, 2 × 20mm Phalanx CIWS, and 2 × Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes.

The Benfold is also equipped with AN/SLQ-25 Nixie Torpedo Countermeasures, MK 36 MOD 12 Decoy Launching System, and AN/SLQ-39 CHAFF Buoys. There is also a flight deck aft of the ship which will accommodate all US Military helicopters except the CH-53 Sea Stallion.
